Our Take on ICT Accessibility

Information and communication technologies (ICT) includes computers, software, copiers, phone systems, websites, and more: every product or service that is used to create, manage, store, or communicate information in almost any form. Obviously a large and growing category! Most ICT products have some usability and accessibility features, if only by accident. Unfortunately, many ICT products also have unintended barriers to people with disabilities.

All US federal agencies are required to purchase only ICT that is accessible, both to their employees and to the public. Section 508 and the standards for ICT accessibility put forth by the Access Board change the way agencies and technology providers do business together. Procurement officers receive training on Section 508. Leading companies have re-engineered their product processes to make sure that accessibility is considered early in design and development.

Inclusive Technologies works with federal agencies, groups of employees with disabilities, and IT companies to make this transition smooth and effective. Our goal is to help these stakeholders past a compliance mentality. The bigger picture shows opportunities for innovative solutions, new products and features, and overall improved usability, resulting in greater productivity for employees with disabilities without straining IT resources.
